1.0 Introduction

Calcium Citrate is a fine white powder used to supplement the level of calcium in food products and to provide a soluble of calcium for reaction with food stabilisers such as carrageenan, pectin and alginate.

It is used in a range of products including dairy and soy products, where additional calcium is required, and in fruit systems, typically at 0.1 – 0.4% depending on the level of soluble calcium required.

Calcium Citrate is manufactured in the USA and complies with FCC requirements. It is a fine white powder which will disperse in most systems and has increased solubility in acidic solution. Calcium Citrate contains around 20.5% calcium.

For the purpose of this statement, allergens are defined by the FSANZ Food Standards, in particular Standard 1.2.3 Mandatory warning and advisory statements and declarations, table to clause 4.

It defines allergens as Cereals containing gluten and their products, namely, wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt and their hybridised strains other than where these substances are present in beer and spirits standardised, Crustacea (shellfish), Egg products, Fish products., Dairy products, Peanuts, Soybeans, Tree nuts, Sesame seeds and any added Sulphites in concentrations of 10 mg/kg or more.

Calcium Citrate does not contain any known allergens as listed in Standard 1.2.3
